Hosting isn't like it used to be. I was very very broke when I got into this business over 10 years ago. I paid my hosting fees on a monthly basis, as some still do today, but I dreaded the end of the month when the next payment was due. I really was unsure about my direction in life. I often had to rethink my whole career because I figured if I couldn't scrape together enough money to pay my hosting fees each month, was I just fooling myself?
It's not hosting cost a ridiculous amount of money. They cost me just shy of $15 per month. Laugh if you like, I still had troubles managing my money properly to get it paid. The hosting company would routinely take my sites down until I caught back up with my payments.
On top of that, when I tried to expand my business and create new websites I usually had to tuck them in a folder off the root if my main site and redirect the domain name to that folder. Most of the hosting companies that I dealt with frowned upon such activity and my accounts were often shut down. Mind you, I was dealing locally, I never even considered buying hosting from a company in a different city or country. Sounds bizarre these days of course.
Plus I had to submit trouble tickets anything I wanted to do anything to my sites. As a result it took days to accomplish simple tasks such as adding support for dynamic scripting languages such as ASP, or to change permissions on folders or files.
Thankfully, these days, things are much more advanced. People are buying hosting packages from companies on the other side of the world. People are paying years in advance. People are also hosting all of their websites under just one account and their costs aren't increasing at all.
I have more than one hosting account with more than one company. One such company, offering unlimited hosting, for less than I was paying for one-site hosting back in the day, is GoDaddy. I have almost as much control as I want with this hosting package, but this came with a bit of a learning curve for me but now I have the process down to a science. One of the most common of the tasks on GoDaddy is to add extra web sites to your unlimited hosting package.
