Dedicated means you are running a specific app and or associated suite of APPs such as a LAMP server. You do nothing else but a single task with that server thus it is dedicated.

Stand alone servers are servers designed to not depend on any other server in general. That usually means the apps and DB are both hosted on the stand alone server. Typically this does not count DNS, and other backbone servers, just application servers. A good example might be a supermarket. Each lane will be a client. A single stand alone server can service those clients storing data from them until it is transmitted to company HQ at some point. That is a stand alone server.

By contrast the same tasks might be done with a dedicated application server and a dedicated database server working in conjunction. Neither would be stand alone servers as they require the other sever to provide targeted functionality.

It’s hard to answer the question without a better context of what application you’re using, but…

Dedicated for in this context usually means that a server will be run with no or only a basic interface to it (that is different from the normal client interface)

Standalone can sometimes mean it will run a server, but you’ll be given a client interface. When you close the client interface the server will also close.

The words can have different meanings, but from the context you’ve given, these are the explanations I think you are looking for.

A dedicated server runs 24/7 They are often mass servers which people pay to host they’re websites and such. A standalone server is what a server would be if i picked up an old box and ran a linux server on it. i cannot guarantee that it will run 24/7 and that its ‘DEDICATED’

It’s just the term refers to the purpose of the server. Dedicated server means it will be use to host certain application only for example dedicated server for email means the server is only used as a email server only. Standalone server means the server doesn’t join any network (domain), so it’s in workgroup mode
