Assume my WAN IP is 111.222.111.222
Assume the IP of the FTP server on the network is 192.168.2.27
I am using a Belkin Router, there are two areas i see as possible for entering.
1) Virtual Servers - Its asks for the following
1a-Enable/Disable - has simple check mark
2a-Description - has simple text field
3a-Inbout Port - has two boxes with a ~ in between
4a-Type - Either UDP or TCP, both is NOT an option
5a-Private IP Address - 192.168.2. the last box needs input
6a-Private Port, it has two boxes just like 3a
2)Application Gateways
1a-Trigger Start Point-single box for port entry
2a-Trigger End Point-single box for port entry
3a-Trigger Type-TCP or UDP or BOTH
4a-Public Port - This has a large enrty box
5a-Public Type - TCP or UDP or BOTH
6a-Enable/Disable
I am running Serv-u ftp server on the
192.168.2.27 machine.
also, the person addressing the ftp server, what is the proper syntax
ftp://111.222.111.222:21
?
Thank you very much for helping
Do i fill out the Application gateways or Virtual Servers section. again, thanks for helping

forward port 21 to your PC from the router. (Vertual server, select ftp) ftp will go to pport 21 by default, you don’t need the :21 at the end of the address.
Under Virtual Servers, enter the following information:
1. Enable/Disable: Enable
2. Description: FTP server
3. Inbound Port: 21-21
4. Type: TCP
5. Private IP Address: 192.168.2.27
6. Private Port: 21
Make sure your FTP server has some strong passwords, mine gets tons of attacks every day by password crackers!
